A Step Too Far: U.S. Approves Sale of Lab-Grown Chicken Meat in Unsettling Precedent

In an unprecedented move that could fundamentally reshape the very concept of the food industry, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s has approved the sale of “lab-grown” chicken meat.

Two California-based companies, Upside Foods and Good Meat, have been granted permission to sell their cell-cultivated products to the nation’s restaurant tables and supermarkets shelves.

“This announcement that we’re now able to produce and sell cultivated meat in the United States is a major moment for our company, the industry and the food system,” said Josh Tetrick, CEO of Eat Just, which operates Good Meat.

“Instead of all of that land and all of that water that’s used to feed all of these animals that are slaughtered, we can do it in a different way,” Tetrick added.

While the companies and regulators claim the development is a step toward eliminating harm to animals and reducing environmental impacts, critics remain unconvinced.

Lab-grown meats are produced by growing animal stem cells in a nourishing medium and bioreactor, which ultimately produces an end product that mimics traditional meat in both taste and appearance.

For Upside foods, this includes large sheets shaped into items like chicken cutlets and sausages. On the other hand, Good Meat transforms chicken cells into various forms such as cutlets, nuggets, and shredded meat – all of which are already available for sale in Singapore.

While some may be excited about this development as it could potentially reduce animal slaughtering rates while promoting sustainability; there are still plenty of unanswered questions when it comes to lab-grown meats that need addressing before we can confidently embrace them as alternatives to traditional meats.

  3. This is basically fraud. It is not Chicken free range or cooped! Chicken is Chicken. You can call a boy a girl, a girl a boy, and what ever a what ever but this liberal and corrupted government can take their lab grown what ever and put it up there what ever.

  4. I don’t care what they call it I don’t want to eat it if it did not come out of an egg and has two legs and is alive it is not a chicken and they can eat all that manmade crap they want just don’t try to feed it to me

I remember just a few years ago, consumers were up in arms over “Genetically Modified Foodstuffs” being corn, wheat, soybeans and other cereal grains raised to increase yields to feed us and our food animals, saying the genetic modifications were going to “…mutate into killer pathogens…”! Where’s the outrage now that these “lab grown meats” are basically cloning a single strand of tissue cells, and force growing them in God knows what kind of chemical soup? There are already credible reports of “government” adulteration of our water and air, (chlorination and fluoridation of our water, chemtrails in the atmosphere) what is to keep them from introducing mind altering drugs into this lab grown meat citing “Food Safety Issues” as a pretext?

  6. By “promoting sustainability”, I think they really mean the promoting the sustainability of the pocket books of these freakazoids that are thinking up, and creating, these utter abominations.
