Rep Matt Gaetz Warns He Will Subpoena Special Counsel, Jack Smith To Appear Before House Judiciary Committee

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida is calling for special prosecutor Jack Smith to answer questions following the second indictment of former President Donald Trump.

Gaetz, who has previously called for defunding Smith’s investigations into Trump, expressed his disapproval in a Newsmax interview posted on YouTube.

He stated that House Republicans should immediately demand that Smith appear before the Judiciary Committee within 15 days for a transcribed interview.

If he fails to do so, they should send out a subpoena and hold him in criminal contempt of Congress if he ignores it – potentially making him the first prosecutor in American history to prosecute a case while under criminal contempt himself.

The charges against Trump stem from an investigation led by Smith into mishandling classified documents during his presidency.

On Thursday, Trump was additionally charged with conspiracy related to efforts challenging the 2020 presidential election results.

Gaetz’s call comes shortly after several other Republican members of Congress have voiced their support for overturning the election results and rallying behind former President Trump despite his loss last year.

The issue has caused divisions even among Republicans themselves as some congressional leaders have spoken out against Gaetz’s views and attempted to distance themselves from them.

It remains unclear how much impact Gaetz’s latest comments will have on this already controversial situation or whether any action will be taken with regards to Smith’s appearance before the Judiciary Committee at this time.

Gaetz said it is necessary to “stand up for Congress’s equities when it comes to election interference [and] when it comes to misuse of the DOJ.”

“This is all an effort to try to distract us from the very real crimes committed by Hunter and Joe Biden,” Gaetz said.

“It’s not a coincidence that Joe Biden is going to the beach now, but it is especially not a coincidence that, on the heels of their former business partner, Devon Archer, saying that Joe Biden was functionally the closer — the guy that gave the credibility to the Biden brand so they could engage in their international influence peddling — this indictment reads like a torturing of First Amendment-protected activity,” he said.

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia said she would invoke the Holman rule, if necessary, to stop Smith, according to The Hill.

The rule allows federal lawmakers to zero in on a particular line item, such as one person’s salary, and reduce it.

  1. I agree with Matt Gaetz on this. Finally him and MTG just might get things going to stop this unfunny comedy.

  2. And still till this day Hillary, Obama and Biden are not being charged for the documents they still have, but then their democrats and Trump is a republican. And we all know how far left Communist democrats are above the law. Corruption at its best.

  3. I would like to see what the Democrats would have to say about bringing jack in for some question! But I bet the media would all forget about what about nobody is above the law? Jack smith broke the law! Now why is he not charged? Why are they letting that slide? Think how that would piss off the Democrats and Crazy nancy pelosi wouls wet her lants!
