Yellen Threatens China: ‘Serious Consequences’ for Helping Russia Avoid Sanctions

On Thursday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen threatened China with “serious consequences” if they work with Russia to evade U.S. sanctions being put into place by the Biden administration.

While speaking at the Group of 20 meeting in India, Yellen asserted, “We have made clear that providing material support to Russia or assistance with any kind of systemic sanctions evasion would be a very serious concern for us.”

She continued, “We will certainly continue to make clear to the Chinese government and the companies and banks in their jurisdiction about what the rules are regarding our sanctions and the serious consequences they would face for violating them.”

“We are seeking to strengthen sanctions and make sure that we address violations of sanctions,” Yellen added. “We have deprived them of many channels they can obtain material that is critical for their defense efforts. That is a particular focus we have in mind in respect to enforcement of existing sanctions and perhaps with respect to further sanctions.”

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced plans to implement more sanctions on Russia “this week” after Russian President Vladimir Putin suspended a nuclear treaty with the United States.

Yahoo reports:

U.S. President Joe Biden will meet virtually on Friday with G7 leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to mark the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and announce new sanctions against those aiding Russia’s war effort, the White House said.

The same group came together last year hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine, imposing the first round of a series of sanctions.

“The G7 has become an anchor of our strong and united response to Russia,” White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Thursday. The leaders on Friday will discuss “how we continue supporting Ukraine” and ways to increase pressure on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine a year ago, she said.

The sanctions will include Russian banks, technology and defense sectors, and will impact both people and companies involved in the conflict, according to Jean-Pierre.

Biden also announced a new $500 million Ukrainian aid package this week, with economic, security, and energy support.

  1. isn’t this exactly what the u.s. is doing, aiding and abetting mass murder and destruction of russian peolple. ukraine was part of russia once, and they decided that they didn’t want the kremlin to get any of their corrupt business cash from the u.s. and biden. so they decided to split, and putin wasn’t happy about it. not to mention having u.s. funded bio weapon labs close to the russian border.
and let’s not forget that hunter boy, was using his old man to launder billions for ukraine, and wanted someone who was going to charge him, removed by his dad’s blackmail of aid to ukraina. yeah, ukraine, second most corrupt country in the world, next to the u.s. democrats.

  2. Notice that “George” doesn’t mention the mass murder and destruction of Ukrainian people..

    1. let’s put it this way, they have a war with each other, not us on this side of the water. if they kill each other , fine, let them.both sides do suffer losses, and hey, that happens in war. but for other countries to give one side a unfair advantage over the other, is a nono. if u.s. gives to ukraine, then china should be able to help russia. as they say, all’s fair in love and war. so, ukraine is now threatening ww3, well they might just get their wish.

      1. Yes George, they need the US to conduct war. If we quit suppling the arms, the dictator in Ukraine would expose the Biden’s for what they really are. Just think how much tax money we would have saved if Biden hadn’t been installed as our want to be dictator.
Yes Lewis, mass killing and destruction happens in war. Not our war! NOT our problem! Look at all the conflicts the US has caused and all the people that has died because we want the oil or we wanted a military base in the area or we wanted what they had. The list goes on forever, just because we wanted it. Wake the hell up before it’s to late for our way of life. Sorry, but everyone wasn’t born here, therefore NOT our problem.

  3. During war, death happens. The problem right now is that victims and witnesses have told about murders, rapes and torture. This is ‘war crimes’ and ‘crimes against humanity’.
It is a bad thing, but the question is, aren’t we (NATO) providing money, equipment and training to Ukraine? Yes sir, we are. Then why would it be anymore right or wrong for China the aid Russia?
    Think about it.

  4. I have an idea but don’t know how it will fly. Give Biden and his administration to the Chinese and the issue will be settled. I think that is what Yellen had in mind as “serious consequences.” Now we have tp[ray that china will take them…

  5. Like joe dementia yellen is a brain dead moron!!!!! dementia is wholly owned by china and ukraine!!!!! I wonder how much of the billions he sent to zelensky came back as a kickback!!!!! Supporting the corrupt dictator zelensky “as long as it takes” is an open ended waste of tax dollars confiscated from working class American citizens!!!!! dementia’s billionaire friends certainly don’t pay for this nor do his illegal alien invaders pals!!!!! They desire to destroy America and have us be a 3rd world puppet state of the new world order global dictatorship!!!!!!!!!! TO THE GALLOWS WITH THE TRAITORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
